11.ENGR. (OTUNBA) G. DANIEL

Born on 6th of April, 1956 in Ogun State. Engr. Otunba Gbenga Daniel obtained his West Africa School Certificate from Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta in 1973, and the GCE advanced level from the Polytechnic Ibadan in 1975. He obtained the B.Sc (Hons) Mechanical Engineering, the MBA Business Administration from the University of Lagos in 1979 and 1981 respectively and participated in the Chief Executive Programme (CEP) Lagos Business School in 1983.

Otunba Daniel excellent professional career development at Metal Construction (WA) Limited and later at HF Schroeder (WA) Limited where he rose rapidly through the ranks to become Deputy Managing Director of the specialized company. He served the company till 1990 when he harnessed his extensive skills in vertical transportation, power generation and structural engineering to set up Kresta Laurel Limited – a company that has been able to retain the services of not less than 10% of all high rise buildings in Nigeria.

As a professional Engineer and Governor, Otunba Daniel supervised the construction of over 2000 Kilometres of road rehabilitation in 4 years; resuscitated and expanded with modern equipment the agricultural plantations with specialized crops ofada rice, cotton, sugar as well livestock; created an ICT awareness and utility revolution through the invigoration of the South West Resource Centre and the innovative Gateway ICTs polytechnic; encouraged investment (FDI) and the Olokola NLNG project; the modernization of Olumo Rock, Laogo Beach etc as veritable tourists attraction.

Otunba Daniel was elected governor of Ogun State in 2003 and re-elected for a second term in 2007. The following are some of his achievement as governor of Ogun State; the realization of The College of Engineering, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ibogun, Ogun state. The establishment of four Polytechnics, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu-Igbo; D. S. Adegbenro Polytechnic, Itori; Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Igbesa; and Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Sapade.Allocation of an acre of Land in Abeokuta to The Nigerian Society of Engineers, Ogun State Branch for the building of the branch secretariat.Allocation of 6000 Sq Meter of land at the River View Estate to The Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers for the secretariat building project which is being developed now and allocation of 50 hectares of industrial land to Nichem Industrial Estates limited industrial park (a company of Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers) along Papalanto axis with a discount of N70 Million ( Seventy Million Naira)

He holds the fellowships of The Nigerian Society of Engineers, The Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers and the Nigerian Institute of Management.

In recognition of his contributions to education, he has been honoured with the Doctorate degrees (Honoris Causa) of the University of Agriculture Abeokuta, the Olabisi University Ago Iwoye, the Babcock University, Ilishan, and Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun, Ogun State. He is also a recipient of the Zik Leadership Award.
