Born on the 16th of December 1935, Engr. Etteh I. I. Etteh attended Hope Waddel Institution, Calabar before proceeding to Ahmadu Bello University where he obtained B.Sc. Civil Engineering of the University of London in 1964. He also holds Master degrees in Highway Engineering and Bridges both from the University of Surrey, England 1969 and 1973 respectively; and has a Diploma in Theology (1997).
On graduation from Ahmadu Bello University, Engineer Etteh joined Messrs Ove - Arup and Partners in 1964 where he worked on various roads and bridge projects. He worked with the firm until early in 1970 to become a Principal Partner in the firm of Etteh Aro and Partners which he co-founded with late Engr. Arokodare. Since April 1970 he has been involved with the design of various projects involving roads, highways, bridges, stadium and building structures in the country. A significant achievement of his firm is the commitment to the training of young engineers at the postgraduate level and to date; the firm has trained over forty-three civil/structural and highway engineers to obtain Masters Degree. This has positioned his firm to be abreast and up-to-date in the latest theory and design methodologies for modern and complex structures.
He has done some part-time lecturing on concrete brides and rigid pavements at the University of Port Harcourt. He has served on national committees on Civil and Structural Engineering problems. Engr. Etteh is a corporate member of the Institution of Highway Engineers, and Institution of Civil Engineers both of U.K. and a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. He is a Foundation Fellow of the Academy.
