Engr. Prof. Adewumi was born in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State. He obtained BSc and MSc degrees in Agricultural Engineering (with specialization in Crop Storage and Food Processing) from the University of Ibadan, Ibadan, in 1986 and 1988 respectively. In 2005, obtained a PhD degree in Agricultural Engineering (with specialization in Crop Storage and Food Processing) from the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA). He had his post-doctoral research in Advanced Food Engineering at the United Nations University (UNU), Tokyo, (UNU Station, Mysore, India) from 2005 to 2006. He had training in the Management of Higher Institutions of Education at the Galilee International Management Institute, Mizra, Israel in 2012.
Prof. Adewumi joined the services of FUTA as a Part-time Lecturer in 1988 and became a full-time staff at the Assistant Lecturer cadre in 1989. He rose through the ranks and became a Reader at FUTA in 2005. He was appointed as a Professor of Food Engineering at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) in 2008. He has had various administrative experiences in the university system. He was Associate Editor, Journal of Engineering and Engineering Technology (FUTAJEET) from 2002 to 2005; Head, Department of Agricultural Engineering and Bioresources Engineering, FUNAAB (2008-2012); Programme Leader (Agricultural Mechanization), World Bank-funded Africa Centre of Excellence, FUNAAB (2014-Date); and Director, Centre for Entrepreneurship Studies (2017-Date).
He has been a very active trainer of engineering personnel for industry and academia. To date he has single-handedly supervised the research projects of over 150 undergraduates, 15 PGD, 13 M.Sc. and 7 Ph.D. students, and co-supervised 11 M.Sc. and 6 Ph.D. students. He has served as Visiting Scientist/Senior Lecturer/Professor at Central Food Technological Research Institute, Mysore, India (2005-2006); University of Ilorin, Ilorin (2000-2001), and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (2015-2016). He has served as External Examiner at several Nigerian Universities. He has over 100 publications as articles in reputable journals, conference proceedings, books, technical reports, etc. He has developed over 30 innovative agro/food processing machines.
He was National Vice-Chairman, Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (NIAE) (2008-2012); National Chairman, NIAE (2012-2016); Chairman, Committee on the Drafting of National Policy on Agricultural Mechanization, NIAE (2011); Chairman, Committee on Standard of Administration Practices for Effective Operations, NIAE (2008-Date); Member, Governing Board of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanization (NCAM), Ilorin (2009-2011); Vice Chair, NCAM-NIAE Committee on Engineering Codes and Standards (2008-2012); Member, National Executive Council, NSE (2012-2016); Chief Inspector, Engineering Regulation and Monitoring (ERM), Ogun State (2000-2014); Member, Food and Agriculture Committee, NSE Headquarters, Abuja (2016-2017); Chief Examiner & Chairman, Examination Committee, NSE, Abeokuta Centre; Chairman, Food and Agriculture Committee, NSE National Headquarters, Abuja (Jan. 2018 to date); Member, Association of Food Scientists and Technologists (AFST), India; Member, American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE); Member, Pan African Society for Agricultural Engineering (PASAE), Stellenbosch. He is Fellow, Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers (FNIAE), Fellow, Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), and a COREN-registered Engineer.
Prof. Adewumi is married to Dr. (Mrs.) Olajumoke Olusola Adewumi and the union is blessed with a boy and a girl.
