ENGR. PROF. FUNSHO ALPHONSUS FALADE
Born on 5th February, 1954 at Ikoro-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Prof Falade attended Sacred Heart Seminary, Akure (1970 – 1974). He earned Diploma in Quantity Surveying at Yaba College of Technology in 1978. He completed his M.Sc (Civil Engineering) at the Moscow Institute of Civil Engineering in the USSR in 1984. He returned to Nigeria to study for his Ph.D in Civil Engineering, gaining this qualification at the University of Lagos in 1998. In 2008, Prof. Falade obtained Post Graduate Diploma in Theology from the Redeemed Christian Bible College, Lagos.
Prof Falade joined the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) in 1986 as an Assistant Lecturer. He progressed from that position to Lecturer II and Lecturer I in 1989 and 1991 respectively. He commenced teaching as Lecturer I at the Department of Civil Engineering, University of Lagos in 1992. He was appointed Senior Lecturer in 1995 and rose to become Professor in 2001. He has published widely on the short and long-term structural behaviours of innovative construction materials and engineering education. He has to his credit over 60 papers published in local and international reputable journals and has made contribution to two books. He has presented over 45 articles at workshops and seminars on such subjects as project management, quality control, maintenance of facilities and contract procurement process etc. He was given an award at the First Nigerian Universities Research and Development Fair for the presentation of a research project of high standard and with relevance to National development in 2005. He obtained University of Lagos best researcher award in Faculty of Engineering in 2005 and 2010. In 2010, he won NUC individual Award in science and Technology (Research) at the 4th Edition of the Nigeria Universities Research and Development Fair held at UNN. He teaches at the Redeemed Christian Bible College, Christchurch Parish, Lagos.
Prof. Falade has served University of Lagos in different capacities including Head, Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering; Chairman, Faculty of Engineering Admissions Committee; Chairman, Faculty of Engineering Research Committee; Member, University of Lagos Strategic Planning Committee; Member, Senate Committee on Diploma and Pre-degree Programmes – Review & Restructuring; Chairman, Faculty of Science Examination Misconduct Committee; Member, Central Research Committee; Chairman, Tenders Evaluation Committee and Chairman, Board of Survey. His services to the nation include: Member, Consultation on UNESCO Draft Programme and Budget for 2000/2001 (30C/5); Member, Standard Organization of Nigeria Working Committee of Draft Standard for Sandcrete. External Moderator/Assessor for: Department of Civil Engineering, OAU, UI, FUTAkure, ESUT, Enugu, Covenant University, Ota. He is the initiator and coordinator of the 3-month Advanced Certificate in Project Management. He is the initiator of African Regional Conference on Engineering Education and the founding President of African Engineering Education Association and Vice-President, International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (2008-2012).
Prof. Falade is a Member/Chairman of the NUC ad hoc Panels and a Member/Chairman COREN accreditation panels to evaluate engineering programmes in some Nigerian Universities. He also served as a Member/Chairman, Federal Ministry of Environment Technical Panels to review the Environmental Impact Assessments of some proposed projects. He is a COREN Registered Engineer, Member, American Society of Civil Engineers, .Fellow, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers.
