Engr. (Prof.) Folorunsho Olayiwola Akinbode was born in Ibadan on 10th August, 1942 to the prestigious Akinbode Family of Abo-Bi-Osan in Itu-Taba, Ibadan, Oyo State. He started his academic career at Ahmadiya Grammar School, Ibadan (1956) and proceeded to the Paddington Technical College, London (1970 – 1972), Luton College of Technology (1972 – 1976), Portsmouth Polytechnic (1976 – 1977) and for his PhD, University of Aston in Birmingham (1981 – 1984).
Prof. Akinbode’s working career spans such wide and prestigious establishments as Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ibadan; University College Hospital, Ibadan; Inner London Education Authority; Knight & Co. Engineering, London; Drayton Control, Middlesex, England; Smith Meters Ltd, London; Nigerian Air Force; North Brewery Ltd. Kano; The University of Aston in Birmingham among others.
He returned back to Nigeria and join the Bayero University as Lecturer I in 1985 and between then and now, has contributed positively to the body of research and knowledge in various other Nigerian Universities. He rose to the post of Professor of Mechanical and Power Engineering in 1994 and he was a Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Minna, from 2005 to 2007. He was foundation Dean, Faculty of Engineering, University of Abuja, (2008 – 2012) and Visiting Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the Arap Moi University, Kenya between 2000 and 2001. Engr. (Prof.) Akinbode has successfully supervised over 60 B.Eng. students, 50 Postgraduate Diploma students, 30 M.Eng. students and has produced 6 PhD graduates.
Prof. Akinbode’s hobbies include Jogging and physical exercise for fun and fitness as well as reading and listening of music. A Grandfather, he is married and blessed with lovely children.
