Born on the 12th May, 1932, Engr. Akinwunmi Adegboye obtained B. Sc. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of London in 1957 and a DIC in Production Engineering from Imperial College in 1963. After graduation, Engineer Adegboye worked with seven manufacturing firms in the UK, including Messrs C. A. Parsons of Newcastle-on-Tyne, Crossley Brothers of Manchester, J. & E. Hall at Dentford Kent between 1957 and 1960.

In April 1960, Engineer Adegboye returned to Nigeria and joined the Federal Ministry of Works as a Mechanical Engineer and later moved to Ministries of Defence and Industry. At the Ministry of Defence, he established the Defence Industries in Kaduna and in the Ministry of Industry he initiated various industrial projects. In 1971, he was appointed the Project manager and Chief Executive of the Nigerian Steel Development Authority (NSDA) where he retired in 1980. He later formed his own Consulting Company – Messrs MITECS Limited with himself as the Managing Director. His firm has provided consultancy service to such establishments as the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Addis Ababa, Commonwealth Secretariat, London, Centre for Development of Industry, Belgium, EEC/ECOWAS Industrial Forum, etc.

Engineer Adegboye is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Chartered Engineer and Member of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (UK). He has published several articles, holds three British Patents and in 1963, was awarded the Silver Gilt Medal for his work on “A Steplessly Variable Speed Drive”. He is a Foundation Fellow of the Academy.
