ENGR. PROF. L. O. ADEKOYA
Born on 12th March, 1949 in Makun-Omi, Ogun Waterside, Ogun State. .Engr. Prof. Lawson Olabosipo Adekoya graduated with a First Class Honours degree in Agricultural Engineering from University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU), Ile-Ife in 1975. He bagged an MS (Engineering) from the University of California, Davis, California, USA in 1979 and a Ph.D. (Agricultural/Mechanical Engineering) from the Iowa State University of Science and Technology, Ames, Iowa, USA in 1982. He had joined the services of the University of Ife as a Graduate Assistant on 16th August, 1976 and rose through the ranks to become a Professor of Mechanical Engineering in 1st October 1997.
Prof. Adekoya has had various administrative experiences at OAU. He was Head, Department of Agricultural Engineering (1991-1993), Head, Department of Mechanical Engineering (1995-1998, 2000-2003), Vice-Dean, Faculty of Technology (1997-1998), Director, Central Technological Laboratories and Workshops, CTLW (2004-2007), and Director, Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer Office, IPTTO (2006-2012). He has been an active trainer of engineering personnel for industry and academia. To date he has supervised the research projects of over 50 undergraduates, 15 M.Sc. students and 2 Ph.D. students. He has served as External Examiner for Mechanical and Agricultural Engineering in many Nigerian universities.
In the Professional Practice, Prof. Adekoya, became member of the NSE. He was Secretary, Ile-Ife Branch (1985-1987), and Branch Chairman (2004-2006), he was Member, Engineering and Environment Committee (1987). Prof. Adekoya served on many occasions as a Member of COREN and NUC Accreditation Teams to Faculties of Engineering of Nigerian Universities including UNN (1991), UI (1999), FUTMIN (2004), ATBU (2005), ABU (2005), FUAMAK (2005), and FUNAAB (2012). He has been an engineering expert in many capacities such as Consultant, National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation, Ilorin (1986-1989); Resource Trainer, National Water Supply Training Network of the National Water Rehabilitation Project, Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Rural Development, Abuja (1997-2002); Consultant, National Economic Intelligence Committee (NEIC), Abuja (1998-1999) and Consultant, Root and Tuber Expansion Programme, Federal Department of Agriculture, Ijebu-Ife (2001). His undergraduate final-year project was patented by the University of Ife as British Patent No. 1591025 of 1981 while his MS project was patented by the University of California, Davis, USA as US Patent No. 4232506 of 1980. He is a COREN Registered Engineer, Fellow, Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers, Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers and Nigerian Society of Engineers
