ENGR. PROF. LINUS OKON ASUQUO
ENGR. PROFESSOR LINUS ASUQUO was born on march 18, 1954 in Mbak Itam lll in ltu local Government of Akwa Ibom State. He obtained his West Africa School Certificate in 1972 from the St. Partricks College, Calabar and later bagged an M.sc degree with distinction in Metallurgical Engineering from Technical University, Kosice, Czechoslovakia in 1982. In 1990, he obtained his Ph.D in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering in the Department of Technology, Enugu.
On return to Nigeria, he did his primary NYSC assignment at Delta Steel Company Limited, Aladja, Warri in Delta State (1982 to 1983). Engr. Professor Linus Asuquo was employed as Lecturer II at the Federal Polytechnic, Idah in 1983.Between 1983 to 1997, he rose to the position of Chief lecturer at the federal Polytechnic Idah, including Head, Department of Metallurgy and Director School of Metallurgy and Materials Technology. He was Research fellow in South Dakota University of Mines and Technology, Rapid City, USA. In 1997, Professor Asuquo transferred his services to University of Uyo, Uyo, Akwa Ibom States as a Senior Lecturer in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering. He held various positions in the University including being the pioneer Acting Head Of Department of Mechanical Engineering, Cordinator of the Faculty of Engineering and twice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.
In July 2000, Engr. Professor Linus Asuquo was appointed the Pioneer Special Adviser on Science and Technology to the Government of Akwa Ibom State. He was responsible of effective and profitable management of bureau of Science and Technology. He provided proper direction and coordination in the formulation and execution of the Science and Technology policy in the State. He created platform for the establishment of a research and development (R&D) oriented University-Akwa Ibom State University of Technology (AKUTECH).
In July 2003, He was appointed Honourable Commissioner for Science and Technology in Akwa Ibom State. Professor Asuquo was responsible of consolidating efforts in ICT capacity building for productivity improvement in the Ministries, Developments and Agencies. He was involved in the design and building of a Science Park to provide the needed infrastructure for IT, R&D and software development and production. This project was not however completed at his exit in 2007; Engr. Professor Linus Asuquo was at the prestigious John F. Kenedy School of Government (KSG) at Havard University, Boston, United States of America in 2006 where he bagged a certificate in Science, Technology and Innovation. He has written many books, the most outstanding being Foundry Technology, Science and Technology Innovations in Akwa Ibom State: Vision and Perspectives, Transforming the Landscape of Akwa Ibom State through Science and Technology and Wealth creation through commercializing Science and Technology Innovations in Akwa Ibom State. Currently, a member of Governing Council, University of Uyo. He is a beneficiary of many International, National, State and Community Awards.
He is registered with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). Fellows, Nigeria Society of Engineers, Nigeria Metallurgical Society, Institute of Quality Assurance of Nigerian Institute of Industrial Administration. Prof. Asuquo is a co-patent holder on cassava processing machine. He is a Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. He is well travelled and is married and blessed with four children.
