ENGR. PROF. N. A. DAMACHI, OON
Prof. Nicholas A. Damachi who was born on 16th March, 1953 in Obudu, Cross River State. He obtained his WASC in Mary Knoll Secondary School, Ogoja, Cross River State in 1970 and had his B. S and M. S degree (Hons) in Industrial & Systems Engineering from Ohio State University in 1976 and 1978 respectively. He proceeded for a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA where he was the first black to receive a doctorate degree from the College of Engineering of the University since its establishment in 1900.
Prof. Damachi started his professional career as a System (intern) with the Technical Services Group of the Division of Water, City of Columbia, Ohio, USA in 1977. This provided the background for his subsequent professional and academic work and contributions in the area of planning, design, computerization and management of the operations of public utility systems.
He has worked in the academia, government and industry. Employed as a Research Associate and Instructor at the University of Cincinnati, he rose to the rank of Adjunct Professor of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering in the Department of Mechanical, Industrial and Nuclear Engineering in 1996. On his return to Nigeria in 1983, he was appointed General Manager, Lamic Nig. Ltd, an indigenous dredging and Marine outfit. He was Director (Special Duties), Federal Ministry of Labour. Prof. Damachi’s consulting assignments have included a wide range of engineering, technical management, system analysis and water related projects e.g. water utility system modeling; development of computer based information systems for water utilities and manuscript review.
He has received numerous honours in Industrial Engineering like Industrial Engineering Society (Alpha Pi Mu), the Scientific Research Society (Sigma Xi). He is listed in the International Who is Who of intellectuals and Marguis Who is who in the World 7th Edition 1984/85.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Industrial Engineers (I. I. E); Fellow, American Society of Quality Control; Member, Tri-State Human Factors Society; Member, Board of Trustees, Cincinnati Free Store; Member, Nigerian Institute of Industrial Engineers (N. I. I. E), COREN and Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
