Professor Taiwo had his B.Sc in Chemical Engineering, M.Sc and Ph.D in Control Engineering. His professional qualifications include FIChE, C.Eng, FNSE; FNSChE; COREN Registered, Sen. MAIChE.
He has held several management positions, including Head, Department of Chemical Engineering, Head, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Dean Faculty of Technology, Member, OAU Ceremonials Committee, Chairman Students’ Disciplinary Committee, Member Fact-Finding Committee on Alleged Curriculum Vitae Falsification, Member, Business Committee of Senate, Chairman, Faculty Research Committee and Member of University Senate.
He has over 80 publications in learned journals, refereed conference proceedings and monographs as well as technical reports and chapters in a book.
His research is in the area of Process Systems Engineering (PSE). He discovered the Recycle Compensator (Taiwo’s Recycle Compensator). He introduced an innovative way of determining the accuracy of numerical inversion of Laplace Transforms as well as solving the erstwhile difficult task of obtaining an analytical expression for the loss function, in terms of unknown parameters, facilitating the cheap computation of optimal reduced models with time delays. He also solved the problem of computing stable, optimal, moment approximants of any desired order. He has been invited to deliver lectures in his areas of expertise around the world, including King’s College London, Technical University of Dortmund, Technical University of Berlin, University of Canterbury, Tohoku University and was a Keynote speaker at the 2009, 2014 and 2015 Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers Conference. He delivered a Special Lecture at the 2015 OAU Faculty of Technology Conference. He was a Senior Research Fellow with Shell Petroleum Development Company, Port Harcourt, and investigated the reliabilities of equipment, field instruments and components. The current hands-on exposure his team emphasizes has engendered the implementation of various linear and nonlinear control laws on experimental systems housed in the PSE Laboratory. The use of dSPACE interface, Arduino Mega boards and MATLAB real-time workshop facilitates convenient implementation of these algorithms.
Prof Taiwo popularized the use of computer algebra programming such as MATLAB, MATHEMATHECA and Maple in Nigeria since 1993 and has subsequently taught these, leading other professors as resource persons in the process at the National Mathematical Centre Abuja and other venues. Even now, he is still very much involved in such dissemination of knowledge having being hired by Tangier Int. Nig Ltd, for the training of Federal University of Technology, Minna staff in using Maple/Maplesim during 25th to 29th January, 2015.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Canterbury, New Zealand noted that Prof Taiwo was the first black African to be invited on the prestigious Erskine Fellowship to teach at the University in 2008. Prof Green, the Editor of Perry’s Chemical Engineers’ Handbook, who was on the same program shared office with Prof Taiwo then. Prof Taiwo has been on Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship to Germany on many occasions.
