Born on June 24th 1940, Prof. Patrick Obi Ngoddy obtained his B.SC degree in Agric Engineering from California Polytechnic University, San Louis Obisop, California, USA in 1965; M.SC and Ph.D in Agricultural Process and Food Engineering from Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan, USA in 1967 and 1969 respectively.
Prof. Ngoddy started his professional career at Michigan State University as instructor in Agricultural Engineering (1968-1969); Assistant Professor in Food and Agricultural Engineering (1968-1971); and Director of Agricultural Pollution Control Laboratory (1969-1971). In 1971 he returned to Nigeria (Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife) where he rose to a Professor in Food Engineering and Processing in 1978. He served as Professor of Food Engineering and Processing, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, where he held several positions such as, Head, Department of Food Science and Technology (1979-1982), Dean, Faculty of Agriculture (1982-1986), Deputy Vice-Chancellor (1985-1986), Dean, School of Post-Graduate Studies (1985-1987) and Deputy Vice- Chancellor, Academic Affairs (1995-1998).
Prof. Nggody has taught at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Food Engineering, Agricultural Processing, Pollution control, Biochemical Engineering, the Technology of Food Preservation, and Food Biotechnology. In recent years because of his expanding interest and work in enterprise and management development, he initiated in Nigeria and helped at Wageningen Agricultural University with postgraduate instruction using the emerging method of Enterprise or Problem-oriented Teaching Entrepreneurship Training for young people.
Over the years, Prof. Nggody has received numerous honours and Awards which include the International Award for Research Excellence of the Institute of Food Technology (IFT) USA, Fellow American Society of Agricultural Engineers, 1965, Fellow Institute of Food Technology (IFT, USA), 1969, Member, American Society for Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineering (ASHRAE), 1970, Member International Editorial Board of Journal of Food Engineering, UK, Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science and several other Professional Societies. Prof. Ngoddy has written many books and has published in several journals. Over the years he has served as Consultant in several organizations in Africa, America, etc.
