Born on 3rd February, 1943, Professor Sulaiman Adeniyi Adekola had his secondary school education at Ahmadiyya Grammar School, Ibadan, and later moved on to Ijebu Muslim College for the higher school certificate education.
He thereafter proceeded to Ahamadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained the B. Sc. (Hons) Degree in Electrical Engineering in 1968. After Zaria, he proceeded on an AFGRAD scholarship award to study at Ohio State University where obtained his M. Sc. and Ph. D. Degrees in 1972 and 1975 respectively, specializing in Communication Engineering. The original nature of his research work at the Ohio State University earned him a meritorious Post –Doctoral National Science foundation Award which was tenable at the Internationally Famous Wave Propagation Laboratory, Boulder, Colorado, USA.
He has published in such reputable journals as International Journal of Electronics, London; ACOUSTICA; Western German, Acoustical Society of America, USA etc. He has also served for six years as a member of Council of the IEE, London and has recently been elected as the Honorary Secretary of the Nigerian Academy of Science. Prof. Adekola joined the staff of the University of Lagos in 1977 as a Lecturer Grade 1, and six years later he was appointed a Professor of Electrical Engineering in 1983. In addition, he has been the University Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) since 1995. Apart from being a foundation Fellow of the Academy, Prof. Adekola has also been honoured with four other Fellowship awards, namely, FIEE, FASA, FNSE and FAS
