Engr. Alexander O. Ogedegbe was born on 18th April, 1943. He attended Igbobi College, Yaba, Lagos from 1957-1963, where he obtained his West African School Certificate in 1961 and the Cambridge Higher School Certificate in 1963. He proceeded to the United States of America to utilize an undergraduate Scholarship-the African Scholarship Programme for American Universities (ASPAU) to study Chemical Engineering at the State University of Iowa, where he graduated with a B.Sc. and M.Sc in Chemical Engineering in 1967 and 1969 respectively.
Engr. Ogedegbe started his professional career as a Summer Engineer with Grain Processing Corporation, Muscatine IOWA, the USA in 1967; Development Engineer, E.I. DU Pont Nemours, Clinton, Iowa, USA from 1968-1969. On his return to Nigeria in 1969, he served Shell-BP Nigeria Ltd as Well-Site Petroleum Engineer; Operations Engineer and Reservoir Engineer from 1971-1974. In 1975, he was appointed Senior Project Manager at NNPC Warri Refinery Project. He was attached to both NPRC Port Harcourt and Union Oil of California on Brea, California, the USA for turn-around and general process design duties respectively. From 1975-1977, he was Senior Project Engineer, Resident in Snamprogetti Office in Italy and later became Deputy Chief Engineer after the NNOC was converted by new decree to NNPC. He was Head of Process/Operations Department of P.E.D; Chief Engineer from 1977-1982. He was appointed Manager and Executive Director of Operations, new Port Harcourt Refining Company in 1988. In 1989, he was Director, Niigermed: A 50/50 offshore Joint Venture Company with NNPC. He was Managing Director, Port Harcourt Refining Company Ltd (1990-1992); Managing Director, Kaduna Refining & Petrochemical Company Ltd (1992-1995); Group General Manager, NNPC, Group Managing Director’s Office (1995-1996); Managing Director, National Engineering and Technology Company (1996-1998); Director-General, Nigerian College of Petroleum Studies, Kaduna (1998-1999). From 1999-2003, he was NNPC Group Executive Director (Engineering and Technology) where he retired at the statutory age of 60 years. He is currently an Engineering Consultant/Director of ILF Consulting Engineers Nig. Ltd, Macmorgan Engineering Ltd and Chairman of Linetrate Gas Ltd (an indigenous gas company).
Engr. Ogedegbe was honoured with the NNPC Group Managing Director’s Award for outstanding performance in (1986/87) and as Project Manager of the new Port Harcourt Refinery Project. He is a founding member of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE), Past President of the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers, and President, Oil & Gas Design Engineers of Nigeria (OGDEN). He is COREN Registered.
