Born in Benin City on May 7, 1932, he attended Yaba Technical Institute, YTI, 1950 to 1954. From 1954 to 1957 he was an employee of the ECN, training as an ATO at the YTI. He graduated in 1957. A Federal Government Scholar in 1958, he attended Faraday House Engineering College, London, and graduated GFH. On completion of part industry attachment at CEGB, he was awarded the DFH in 1962.

As Senior Commercial Engineer in charge of sales in 1969, he was elected Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. That year, he was an Eisenhower Fellow — a fellowship that offered him a platform to study Commercial Engineering techniques for optimal electricity sales. But due to a roadblock in the ECN's Commercial Department, he was posted to Kaduna as District Manager in 1970. Appointed Area Manager North in 1971, he spent twenty years in the ECN before he left in 1974.

Engr Uwaifo formed Omo Uwa Partners, a Consulting/Engineering firm in 1974. He was an External Examiner on Power Systems Engineering to the Electrical Engineering Department of Auchi Polytechnic. He served on a number of National Panels on Electric Power Supply, and Motor Assembly Plants. He has written widely. His latest book – Conversations in Electric Utility Engineering is in the works. Engr Uwaifo was elected MIEE in 1968 and MNSE in 1969. An Eisenhower Fellow in 1969, he was elected Fellow of the NSE, 00.220, 1983. He is registered by COREN, R. 0251, 1977.
