Engr. Prof. Emmanuel Osikhuemeh Aluyor was born on 24th April, 1969, to the family of Chief & Mrs P.S. Aduku-Aluyor. He hails from Ivwioghe, Etsako East LGA, Edo State. He has carved a niche for himself in the field of Engineering in Nigeria and beyond. He has Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from the University of Benin.
He was employed as Lecture II at the University of Benin in 1994 and rose through dints of hard work to the rank of Professor in 2010. He is an authority in Chemical Engineering, specialised in biotechnology, with several intellectual innovations and contributions to the field, that include the extraction, analysis and processing of a wide-range of uncommon oils for fuelling engines and the development of a novel catalyst for use in the production of biodiesel. He has over 80 published articles in renowned journals.
He has served as the Editor-in-Chief of Nigerian Journal of Biomedical Engineering and is an Editorial Board Member of NSChE Journal and Journal of Engineering and Technology Research. He has supervised eight PhD students. He has served in different capacities, including being Head, Chemical Engineering Department, University of Benin; Chairman of the University Scholarship & Prizes Committee; Chairman, NSE, Benin Branch; Vice-Chairman, NSE, Benin Branch and Chairman, Technical Sub-Committee of the 2015 AGM/Conference of the NSChE. He is currently a COREN Council Member representing the Universities in the South-South.
He has served as professorial assessor, post-graduate and undergraduate external examiner and chaired several NUC and COREN accreditation panels to various institutions. He has presented technical papers at local and international conferences attended by dignitaries within and outside the field of Engineering. He became a registered COREN Engineer in 2002.
He is an active Fellow, Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE); Fellow, Nigerian Institution of Production Engineers (FNIProdE) and Fellow, Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (FNSChE). In 2016, he was appointed as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor (in an acting capacity) of the newly established Edo University Iyamho. Today, this emerging Nigerian world class university is fast becoming a household name at home and abroad. He has proved to be an effective and efficient administrator as the University was recognised as the best State government-owned Nigerian University by the NUC in its OER-Ranking of 2018.
Acknowledging his uncommon administrative skills and passion for quality education for Nigerians, the Edo State Government confirmed him as the University’s Vice-Chancellor in 2018.
He is an award-winning humanitarian. A few are Ecowas Youth Council, Thomas Sankara Agenize for Excellence and Integrity, Icon of Academic Renaissance, 2019; The Guardian Newspapers Limited, 20 Most Exemplary Vice-Chancellors of Universities in Nigeria, 2018 and Edo/Delta Industry and Leadership Award, in recognition of Excellence in leadership and Service, 2018. He resides in the Vice Chancellor’s lodge of Edo University Iyamho.
He is happily married to Dr. Patience Aluyor, who is also an academic. Their union is blessed with children.
