Olagoke Olabisi (born on 25/11/1943) is a Nigerian-American chemical engineer who has played a remarkable role in the acquisition, advancement, and dissemination of technical knowledge globally. Currently the Chief Consultant at Infra-Tech Consulting LLC, Sugar Land, Texas, Olabisi is still waxing strong after five decades of a distinguished career beginning with his first technical publication in 1971 and the most recent in 2020.
A 1965 recipient of an ASPAU scholarship, Olabisi was accepted for Chemical Engineering at Purdue University and graduated with BS degrees in Chemical Engineering and Industrial Management in 1969. He won the outstanding Chemical Engineering senior student award. After a MS degree in Chemical Engineering in 1971 from the University of California, Berkeley, he earned a PhD degree in Macromolecular Science and Engineering from Case-Western Reserve University in 1973. He also earned a MS degree in Engineering Management at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 1980.
Olabisi was employed, in 1973, at the R&D Department of Union Carbide Corporation where he earned eight patents focused on the Structural Web and Structural Foam Molding processes. The conservation activities of developing new materials through blending of two or more structurally different homopolymers, copolymers, terpolymers and other plastics, resulted in several publications including his 1979 landmark book titled ‘Polymer-Polymer Miscibility’. He became an Adjunct Professor of Chemical Engineering at Polytechnic Institute of New York in 1979 and an Adjunct Professor of Polymer Engineering at the University of Akron in 1983.
Olabisi was appointed Professor of Chemical Engineering, UNILAG, in 1983, where he initiated courses and research for PhD program in petrochemicals. Through his Adjunct Professorship and other linkages with the University of Akron and Case Western Reserve University, he was able to secure opportunities for some students to earn fellowships to pursue PhD in the two universities. While affiliated with UNILAG, he was seconded to LASU during 1985-87 as the Foundation Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Technology, and Environmental Sciences. In 1988, after his return to UNILAG, Olabisi became the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering, and in 1989, was appointed the Managing Director, UNILAG Consult.
In 1990, Olabisi was appointed a Professor at King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, where his consulting activities resulted in a patent on ethylene oligomerization catalysts. Appointed a Consulting Engineering Specialist by Saudi Aramco in 1996, his activities at Aramco earned him a 2001 Aramco Certificate of Recognition for Outstanding Achievements in Engineering & Operations Services.
In 2007, Corrpro (a Houston subsidiary of Aegion) appointed Olabisi as the Director, Internal Corrosion Engineering and the Principal Investigator of the US government project on the impact of external corrosion direct assessment (ECDA) process. He also became the lead developer of the Pipeline Corrosion Integrity Management Course for NACE International. He managed other Oil&Gas corrosion projects on behalf of several US clients and Kuwait Oil Company. Olabisi continues to consult and remains an active member of international professional and engineering organizations.
