Engr. Ali A. Rabiu, FNSE who was born on the 24th of April, 1963 in Lafia Nasarawa State attended Bayero University in Kano State from where he obtained a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master in Business Administration (MBA). He is a COREN registered engineer and a Fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE) and Fellow of American Society of Civil Engineers (F.ASCE).
He is a recipient of various professional awards and recognitions and for his many contributions to his native community and his novel works he was honoured with the traditional title of Cigarin Lafia by His Royal Highness, the Late Emir of Lafia, Alh. Isa Mustapha Agwai 1 in 2009. He is a member of the Lafia Community Central Mosque implementation committee.
Engr. Rabiu has a robust professional career in engineering spanning over 35 years where he served in various administrative and managerial capacities in the public and private sectors, some of which are:
Executive Partner, AR – AR Partnership, Consulting Engineering firm;
Senior Engineer, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Project;
Project Coordinator/Project Manager, Hotoro South Erosion Control Project, Kano State;
Project Manager, Oforachi Irrigation Project, Kogi State;
Project Manager, World Bank – Assisted Nasarawa State Community Based Urban Development Project, Karu;
Project Director, Nasarawa State Massive Programme on Road Construction, amongst others.
He has been responsible for, and involved in the design and supervision of several bridges, roads, concrete structures, water supply schemes, small dams, flood and erosion control works, environmental sanitation projects and community development programmes.
Engr. Rabiu became a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in March, 2000 and served the society in various capacities including as Chairman of the Kano Branch. He also served as Vice President of the NSE for three terms.
Engr. Rabiu, joined the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) in May, 2016, representing the North Central Geo-Political Zone of Nigeria. He was part of the Engr. I. K Inuwa Committee that reviewed the COREN Act. Cap E11, 2004 and worked assiduously with other stakeholders till the Act was signed into law by President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. He was the Chairman, Main Organising Committee of the 26th and 27th Engineering Assembly.
He was elected the President and Chairman of the Council in April, 2019. Under his Presidency, the Council has achieved the following:
Accreditation Visitation to 146 Programmes accredited in 37 Universities.
Produced and implementing the content of Outcome-Based Engineering Education Accreditation Manual for Engineering Programmes in Nigerian Universities.
COREN is currently engaging stakeholders to ensure effective implementation and ownership of the programme.
Liaised with Federal Ministry of Education, NBTE, NUC and the Technical Schools Directorate of the Ministry on the successful implementation of OBE.
Indexing of Undergraduate Engineering Students software developed ready to be deployed;
Created the Engineering Regulation and Monitoring Department.
He is working with other stakeholders on the implementation of the new mandates of COREN.
He is married with children.
