Kolawole J. Osinubi was born on 12th August, 1957, at Port Harcourt, Rivers state. He holds a Ph. D. (Bases and Foundations) degree from Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture, Ukraine. He started work at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) in 1989 and rose to the rank of Professor in 2001.
Prof. Osinubi’s experience found application in diverse ways as Examiner, Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Graduateship Examination (1993 – 2006) and professional interview (up to 2014); Resource Person, NSE in-house basic and intermediate training for Shell Petroleum Development Corporation staff; Member, Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) Engineering Regulation and Monitoring Committee (2000) and Chief Inspector for Zaria Zone (2009 – 2019); Head, Department of Civil Engineering (1998 – 2002); Vice President (Engineering Materials), Materials Science and Technology Society of Nigeria (MSN) (2006 – 2008); Chairman, Zaria Chapter of MSN (2005 – 2008); Member, Council of Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers; External Examiner to several tertiary institutions; and Member of several National Board for Technical Education, National Universities Commission and COREN accreditation teams. Other professional committees in which Prof. Osinubi also served include: NSE Professional Development Board; Zaria Branch Engineering Failure Committee; Standards Organization of Nigeria Committee on Civil/Building Materials; Organizing Committees of MSN ‘NIMACON 2004 - 2006’; Nigerian Geotechnical Association Problem Soils of Nigeria as well as Codes and Standards Committees. He is a member of Transportation Research Board, U.S.A. AFP40 Committee on Geo-Environmental Processes (2009 – 2019) and currently a Friend of the Committee. He also served as Editor-in-Chief of Nigerian Journal of Engineering.
Prof. Osinubi is the recipient of 2006 Hsai-Yang Fang research award by the International Society of Environmental Geotechnology. He also received the 2000/01 academic session “Award of Excellence’ presented by the National Association of Civil Engineering Students for selfless, dedicated and meritorious contribution as Head of Department; the 2011 Postgraduate Students Award of Honour in recognition and appreciation of dedicated contribution to knowledge as well as the 2012 Mayflower Old Students Association Merit Award in recognition of meritorious service to humanity through his profession.
Prof. Osinubi has 148 journal articles and 143 peer reviewed conference proceedings. He successfully supervised 24 Ph.D. and 99 M. Sc. students; over 3,000 B. Eng and 200 M. Sc. students trained. His Engineering Practice includes soil investigations and technical reports for the design of various structures, forensic assessment of structures on weak bases as well as the coordination of engineering design of infrastructure for the Aviation Village, Abuja.
Prof. Osinubi is Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers; Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers; Materials Science and Technology Society of Nigeria; Nigerian Geotechnical Association; and American Society of Civil Engineers; as well as Member, Geo-Institute; International Society of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering and United States Universities Council on Geotechnical Education and Research. He maintains membership of National Geographic, a scientific and educational society as well as associate member of Smithsonian Institution research centres.
