Dr. Michael Adedokun Adegbite was born on 12 February, 1963. He had his secondary school education at Baptist Academy, Lagos. He holds BSc in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering (1987, University of Ife, Nigeria), MSc in Welding and Adhesive Bonding of Engineering Materials (1993, Brunel University, England), MSc in Offshore and Ocean Technology (2003, Cranfield University, England) and PhD in Corrosion Engineering (2014, Cranfield University, England).
His interest includes performance of welded joints, asset integrity management, offshore technology and learning / human resource development. He has supervised graduate theses and conducted notable commissioned projects. Engr. Adegbite was appointed the Director and Chief Coordinator of Offshore Technology and Energy Centre Petroleum Training Institute in September, 2021.
He orchestrated the NCDMB-SNEPCo sponsored Diver Medical Technician (DMT), IMCA registered training for Divers; the second of such in Africa. In addition, he successfully coordinated and delivered the “Sustainability Plan” for the “Diving Centre of Excellence”.
As the Director of Engineering (January 2021 - August 2021), he coordinated the accreditation / re-accreditation of all engineering programmes, as well as, carried out technical audit of the resources within the Directorate. Between February 2018 - August 2021, he pioneered Quality Management System and made remarkable success towards the Institute’s quest for ISO 9001: 2015 Certification. From 2005 to 2011, Adegbite was the coordinator of the National Centre for Non-Destructive Testing and Country (Nigerian) Representative for International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Project (RAF/8/043) - Promoting Self-reliance and Sustainability of Non-Destructive Testing Facilities.
Michael Adegbite is a Registered Engineer and Certified Welding Inspector. He is a Fellow /Life Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. In addition, he is a Fellow of the Nigerian Metallurgical Society and Nigerian Corrosion Association, among others.
Adegbite is currently the President of Institute of Non-Destructive Testing, Nigeria and Member of the African Federation of Non-Destructive Testing. He chaired Warri Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers in 2009 and 2010, and served in many National and Presidential Committees, including the Iron and Steel Development Committee. He chaired the Society of Petroleum Engineers Section 104 (2009 / 2010) and received many Distinguished Awards, including the prestigious “SPE Projects, Construction and Facilities Africa Region Award” in 2019.
He was selected Society of Petroleum Engineers Distinguished Lecturer (SPE DL) 2021 / 2022; delivered lectures in 10 SPE Sections in 7 countries. Adegbite, at various times, served as a Resource person to the National Board for Technical Education for the accreditation of Technical Programme (Welding and Fabrication Technology). From 2020 to 2021, he chaired the National Occupational Standard (NOS) for Welding and Related Fields Committee, and successfully drafted, developed and classified job profile, coordinated the critique and validation of the classified NOS (Levels 1, 2 and 3 Qualifications).
Adegbite is a “Youth Ambassador for Peace”, Haven Universal Peace Federation and Youth Federation for World Peace. He has great passion for community service especially career counselling and empowerment for youths and the development of young professionals.
Adedokun’s marriage to Oluyemisi is blessed with Adeoluwa, Ademola and Adeniran.
