Engr. Wopa Kamila Maliki is a past Registrar of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).  He served as the Registrar of COREN from March, 2013 to March, 2019 and his landmark achievement during his tenure was the amendment of the COREN Act CAP E11, 2004. The amendment has broadened the mandates of the Council with far reaching powers of prosecution of infractions, regulating industrial training, continuing professional development, capacity building and local content in Nigeria engineering industry.

Engr. Maliki was a former Director, Water Resources Engineering Services at the Ministry of Water Resources, Kwara State and in charge of the Kwara State Water Turn-Around Programme. He was involved in Engineering, Procurement and Construction of 15 Water-works across Kwara State, including the Asa Dam Water Treatment Plant in Ilorin. The programme also involved in the construction and laying of 105 kilometers of distribution pipe networks along with two associated Concrete Water Tanks, within the Ilorin metropolis.

Engr. Maliki was born on 31st May, 1960 in Ilorin, Kwara State.  He attended the Government Secondary School, Malete Kwara State between January, 1973 and June, 1977.  He studied Mechanical Engineering at Kwara State College of Technology, Ilorin, where he acquired the Higher National Diploma in 1982. With the zeal to further his education, he proceeded to the then Anambra University of Science and Technology, Enugu, where he bagged the Post Graduate Diploma and Master in Engineering degrees in 1988 and 1990 respectively. 

Engr. Maliki took time off his busy schedule to study for a Master in Public Administration at the University of Ilorin in 2003. Engr. Maliki started his engineering career in October, 1983, as an Higher Technical Officer in the Civil Service of Kwara State. He rose through the ranks and became a Director in January, 2005. He has, over the years, acquired experience in various aspects of engineering projects design, supervision, construction and procurement services.

He served as a member of several building construction project teams as the Mechanical Engineering Services Engineer including the construction of Kwara State House of Assembly Complex, Kwara State Library, State Secretariat Phase II and III complexes and many more. In 2003, as a mark of recognition of his astute qualities as an engineer and administrator, Engr. Maliki was appointed the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of the Kwara State Water Corporation. He administered 92 Water works, supplying water to about 180 communities across Kwara State.

He was nominated to attend the Senior Executive Course, 28 of the prestigious National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru-Jos in 2006 and thus became a Member of the National Institute (mni). Engr. Maliki became a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in 1997 and, in the same year, registered as a Mechanical Engineer with COREN.  He got elevated to the prestigious status of the Fellow of the NSE in 2010. He served the NSE as an Executive Committee member in the Ilorin Branch and in various capacities, culminating to the position of Chairman in 2012.  He was a member of the COREN-ERM Committee in Ilorin Zone, where he also served as the COREN Zonal Supervising Engineer from 2002-2012. In the course of his career, he has attended various conferences, workshops and training programmes locally and outside the country.

He is passionate about developing talents and building inclusive workforce. He has written and presented several technical papers at various professional training gatherings. He is recipient of several awards of Honour and certificates of participation. Engr. Maliki is well known for his high level of integrity, deep knowledge on issues and very prudent in the management of resources. Engr. Maliki is currently the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Kay Hay Milla Services Limited; which is a Mechanical, Electrical and Civil Engineering Consultancy firm.

He is also a member of the COREN Committee on Registration and the Washington Accord Application Committee. As a thoroughbred professional, he is a member of the Ilorin Central Mosque Management Committee. Engr. Maliki, a professional engineer and seasoned administrator, is married with children. His hobbies include reading, traveling and playing Badminton.
