Born on 2nd September 1941. Engr. Babajide Akinremi Soyode attended the C.M.S Grammar School, Bariga, Lagos, before proceeding to the University of Purdue in Indiana, USA where he graduated with B.S. (Chemical Engineering) in 1965. He later studied at Clarkson University, Potsdam, New York and earned the M.S. (Chemical Engineering) degree in 1968. He worked in the United States as a process engineer at Rohm and Hass Company (1967-1971).
Engr. Soyode returned to Nigeria in 1974 and has served creditably in both the public and the private sectors. He has had an extensive career in the oil and gas industry. He has also made a tremendous contribution to the development of the petroleum refinery industry in Nigeria, with the distinction of serving the sector at critical times as one of the founding national engineers that built both the Warri and the Kaduna refineries.
In 1974, he joined the planning and development project team that built the Warri Refinery, becoming the Commissioning Coordinator in 1980 when the refinery was completed. He served as the Refinery Manager 1985-86. He similarly served the industry as General Manager, Kaduna Refinery, in 1986. He ended his public service career as Group General Manager (Corporate Planning and Development) at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (1988-90).
Engr. Soyode founded his own company, B.A.Soyode & Co., an engineering and project management consultancy firm; and in 1994, he converted this into Atlas Poligenics Limited where he served as Director while he took over the Frezone Plant Fabrication International (manufacture of pressure vessels and modular plants) as Managing Director.
He is a Fellow of Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers, Fellow Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Nigerian Academy of Engineering, Member of American Institute of Chemical Engineers, Member Africa Scholars Committee of Nelson Mandela Institutes and Past President, Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers
