Engr. Dr. Abubakar A. Adama was born on 29th August, 1949 at Idah in Idah LG of Kogi State. He is an Electrical, Electronic, and Telecommunication Engineer with over forty-nine years of experience overseas and in the Nigerian public and provate sectors. In 1975, he obtained a BSc (Honours) in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Birmingham, U.K; an Msc. Degree in Telecommunication Systems Engineering in 1976 and later in 1986, he obtained a PhD in Electronic Systems Engineering both from the University of Essex, UK. His working career started in the Federal Ministry of Communications as an Engineer. He later moved to ITT Nigeria Ltd as a Senior Engineer in 1977 and was deployed to their subsidiaries in U.K and Belgium.On his return to Nigeria in 1979, Dr. Adama joined the project team of ITT on the modernisation of the Nigerian Telecommunication Network. He played a leading role in the installation of electronic telephone exchanges in Lagos, under the Phase 3 Telecom. Development Plan of the Nigeria government. Dr. Adama later joined the Federal Polytechnic Idah, as a lecturer in Electrical and Electronic Engineering where he rose to the position of Chief Lecturer and later the Director of Works of the institution. His dedication to work and immense contributions earned him an overseas scholarship to read for his PhD at the University of Essex, U.k between 1984 and 1986. In 1989, he joined the then Nigerian Telecommunication Limited, NITEL, as a Deputy General Manager and was deployed to Akwa Ibom State as the Territorial Manager. He later became DGM, Engineering and Technical Training, Lagos and finally the Territorial Manager in charge of Kaduna States operations. Between 2004 and 2015, Dr. Adama was appointed by the Kogi State Government as DG, Science & Technology Development, Special Adviser to the Governor on Projects Implementation and Monitoring, Commissioner of Works and Housing,  and MD, Kogi State Road Maintenance Agency. During this period, he delivered on many critical development projects. Since leaving Kogi State service, Engr. Dr. Adama has been atop of his ICT Company – Seagate Communication and Networking and was recently appointed as the Board Chairman, of World Sports City Limited – a sports infrastructure development company. He has played significant roles in his professional life, including being a member of BPE’s Committee on Radio Spectrum Management during the FGN’s telecommunications restructuring and deregulation exercise. He has also served on several COREN Accreditation visitation panels to universities from 2010 to 2016 for the accreditation of Engineering Degree programmes. He is a registered engineer with COREN, Fellow, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Fellow, Telecommunications Executive Management Institute of Canada, Fellow, Institute of Government, Research and Leadership Technology,  and Senior Fellow, Institute of Professional Managers and Administrators, among others. He has authored several publications in international journals of engineering  and also won international awards for his work on digital data transmission networks. He is happily married to Dcns Hassana Adama and they are blessed with six(6)  adult children and eleven(11) grand children.
