Ákaehomen Okonigbon Akii Ibhadode was born on 13th September 1957 in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State. He obtained B.Sc. (Mechanical Engineering) (First Class)  from the University of Lagos, M.Eng. (Manufacturing Engineering) from the University of Benin, and Ph.D. (Mechanical Engineering) from the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom in 1981, 1984 and 1987 respectively. He started his working career at the University of Benin in 1982 as a Graduate Assistant after his one-year mandatory National Youth Service Corps Scheme at Household Products Limited, Jos, Plateau State. He became a Professor in 1999. He is a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Nigerian Academy of Science, Materials Science and Technology Society of Nigeria, and the Solar Society of Nigeria.   He was the Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), Delta State from 2015 to 2020. As Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibhadode brought stability to the university and laid down enduring structures for its development as a foremost energy university. From 2016 - 2020, he was also, the NNPC/SPDC-JV Professor of Lightweight Automobile Engine Development at FUPRE where he and his co-workers developed a new lightweight engine material suitable for making engine parts. Professor Ibhadode has been Head of Department of Production Engineering, University of Benin, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, Project Manager, Uniben STEPB Project (World Bank/Federal Ministry of Education project), Project Coordinator, University of Benin Shell Eco-Marathon Competition. Professor Ibhadode has over 100 publications and five patents. He has supervised 11 Ph.D. and over 50 M.Sc./M.Eng. candidates. He is the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Engineering Research in Africa (JERA) published by Trans Tech Publications, Zurich, Switzerland since 2009..  As Dean of Engineering, University of Benin, he instituted the International Conference on Engineering Research and Development (ICERD) at the University of Benin.   Professor Ibhadode’s research and development activities cut across automobiles and engines, precision forging, industrial raw materials, research/teaching/processing equipment design. He and his co-workers have built small IC engines, lightweight vehicles, and developed new lightweight engine materials. They have developed local raw materials for metal-arc welding electrodes, gas welding flux, asbestos-free brake lining, plant fibre-, and sawdust-reinforced plastics, research and teaching equipment, and kilishi processing equipment. His book: “Precision Die Design by the Die Expansion Method” won the 2010 Nigeria Prize for Science of the Nigerian Academy of Science sponsored by the Nigeria LNG Limited. He and his Ph.D. Supervisor, won the Edwin Walker Prize for 1988 of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, United Kingdom for its outstanding contribution to Manufacturing Technology and Design.  Professor Ibhadode has provided services to the engineering profession as member of both local and national committees of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, inspector and accreditation team member for COREN, and Chairman of organizing committees of various engineering conferences.
