Engr. Dr. Iniobong Louisa Usoro was born in Etinan, Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria on 10th September 1964. She had her primary education at Waller Elementary School, Waller County, Texas. She returned to Nigeria with her parents and had her secondary education at Cornelia Connelly College, Uyo in Akwa Ibom State. She later gained Bachelor and Masters in Civil Engineering degrees from the University of Ilorin in 1985 and 1988 respectively. As one who loves to add value to herself, Dr. Iniobong Usoro added further laurels she obtained a Diploma in French Language (2000),  Masters in Business Administration  from the University of Leicester (2012) and a Doctorate in Business Administration from the University of Liverpool (2021) both in the United Kingdom. Engr. Dr.  Usoro began her engineering career with the Federal Ministry of Works as Engineer 1 (1991) and rose to the rank of Chief Engineer where she supervised several road projects including the Dualisation of Abuja-Keffi Road. She later transferred her services to the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency, FERMA (2007). In FERMA she headed the Procurement Department and delivered over 950 projects without compromise over an 8 year period. She retired as the Director heading the Roads Maintenance Services Department in September 2024. Her professional career spanned highway design, construction, maintenance and management. Engr. Iniobong Usoro is a registered member of the Council for the Registration of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN),  Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Management (FNIM), Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers and Fellow of the Nigerian Institution of Highway and Transportation Engineers. She is also a past president of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN). In her zeal and love for the engineering profession she is a recipient of several awards such as Presidential Merit Award, NSE (2014), APWEN Biennial Woman (2017-2019) and Certificate of Commendation, in recognition of hard work and contribution to the upliftment of FERMA (2014) to mention a few. There are also several publications to her name, the latest being her memoir ‘Steps, Strides and Glides’ (2024) — a compelling story of resilience, purpose and excellence. Dr. Iniobong Usoro believes that ‘education is key to unlocking ones potential and building a brighter future,’ thus she has been actively involved in renovating schools, giving scholarships and running a computer laboratory that guides self-paced online learning via Khan Academy (a free online digital classroom) in her alma mater. This afforded her the current position of International President of Cornelia Connelly College Old Girls’ Association. These contributions have been quite impactful, touching every aspect of school life. Engr. Dr. Iniobong Usoro is married to (Air Vice Marshal rtd.) S.J. Usoro and they are blessed with children and grandchildren.
