Engr. Prof. Mohammed Ajiya was born on 17th September 1963 in Misau town of Bauchi State. Between 1970 and 1976, he was at Central Primary School Misau. Between 1976 and 1981, Mohammed was at General Murtala Mohammed College, Yola for his secondary school education. Thereafter, he immediately enrolled at the Kaduna Polytechnic where he obtained National Diploma in Electrical Engineering in 1984. He obtained Bachelor and Master of Engineering degrees in Electrical Engineering from Bayero University in 1994 and 2000 respectively. In the year 2010, Engr. Prof. Ajiya obtained Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Optical Communication Engineering from University Putra Malaysia having completed the study in a record period of exactly 2 years. Mohammed later enrolled into Newcastle University, UK from where he obtained a Postgraduate Certificate in Advance Studies in Academic Practice in 2011.

Engr. Prof. Ajiya started his working career in 1984 as Assistant Technical Officer (Electrical) with Bauchi State Development Board. In March 1987, he joined Arewa Ceramics Limited Misau as Technical Officer and roused through the ranks and became the General Manager /Chief Executive Officer of the Company in June 2000. In 2002, he was deployed as the pioneer General Manager /CEO of Bauchi Plastics Company limited, ow · by the Bauchi State Government. On 2nd January 2004, Mohammed joined his alma mater, BUK as Lecturer II. He roused through the ranks to reach the pinnacle of his career in 2016.

Ajiya has taught over 25 different courses both at undergraduate and postgraduate levels and has supervised several undergraduate projects, Master of Engineering dissertations and PhD thesis. He has internally and externally examined over SO postgraduate students. He has published over 100 academic articles in citation and non-citation index journals and presented several articles in National and International conferences. He is an owner of registered patents. He presented his Professorial Inaugural lecture on 18th October 2018.

Engr. Prof. Ajiya has attended several seminars, workshops and trainings. He is a recipient of many honors and awards that includes, The International Einstein Award for Scientific Achievement; one of 2000 Outstanding Intellectuals of the 21st Century; One of Top 100 Global Engineers in the year 2011 by International Biographical Centre, Cambridge, England. UK. He was a member, inter -Agency Committee of the Professionals inaugurated by the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) to assess Telecommunication based innovations from the Academia in Nigeria; Member Expert panel inaugurated by the NCC on the Development of appropriate Blueprint/curriculum for ICT innovation and research programs in Nigeria; Member of several NUC and COREN accreditation visitation panels to engineering programmes of several universities and polytechnics.

He sat on over 40 Departmental, Faculty and University committees. Between 2012 and 2015; Head, Department of Electrical Engineering, BUK. Between 2015 and September 2019; Director, ICT of BUK. Between October 2019. In February 2024, he was President/CEO of NCC's Digital Bridge Institute and widely travelled.

He is a COREN Registered Engineer. Fellow, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Higher Education Academy, United Kingdom; Member, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, USA; Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers of America, Institute of Industrialist and Corporate Administrators of Nigeria and Optical Society of America. He is a Thomson Reuters Researcher and belongs to Open Access Academy.

Engr. Prof Ajiya is happy married and blessed with children.
