Engr. Prof. Chinedu Ositadinma Nebo, CON, FNSE, FNMS, FMSN, NPOM, was born on June 4, 1952. He attended primary schools in Ibadan, Kafanchan and Port Harcourt, where he passed the First School Leaving Certificate examination with Distinction in 1965. He then attended the then prestigious Government Secondary School, Afikpo where he obtained the WASC with flying colors. He later proceeded to the USA under the scholarship of the Federal Government of Nigeria to study Mining Engineering at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.
He bagged a Highest Honors (First Class) B.Sc. degree as the top graduating student in 1978. He obtained both an M.Sc. degree in Metallurgical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering and Science at the same prestigious institution. While a student, he was elected into the honours society for engineering and for mathematics. He was also listed in Whos Who Among Students in American Universities and in International Youth in Achievement. As a postgraduate student, he conducted several research studies that were funded by such USA institutions as The National Science Foundation. Engr. Nebo rose to become the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria Nsukka and the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of Federal University Oye-Ekiti, from which position he was appointed Minister of Power of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
