Born on the first of August, 1932, Dr. Anthony Omunwarure Madedor attended St. Gregory College, Lagos, before going to the University of Manchester where he graduated in 1957. Thereafter, he obtained a Masters degree from Birmingham University in 1962 and later returned to the University of Manchester for his Doctorate in 1967.

From September 1957 to June 1960, Dr. Madedor worked with the firm of Cementation Co. Ltd., London. He also worked with Messrs Husband and Company and Ian Fraser and Associates, both in London between July 1961 and March 1962. He returned to Nigeria and joined the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing where he was posted to the Materials Section as Executive Engineer in 1963 and was appointed Acting Head of Materials and Research Division in 1968 and Assistant Director in 1975. Following the establishment of the National Science and Technology Development Agency in 1978 where he was appointed the Director of the Building and Road Research Institute which absorbed the Materials and Research Division of the Ministry of Works and Housing as its nucleus. He remained the Director of the Institute until he retired in April 1995. Since then, he has been an Associate Partner of the firm of Progress Engineers, a firm of Consulting Engineers in Lagos.

Dr. Madedor has published several articles in learned local and international journals and has also attended several international conferences. He is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers, a Chartered Engineer and a member of The British Institution of Civil Engineers, a Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, and a Foundation Fellow of the Academy.

Dr. Madedor was the President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers in London (1960-61), member of the National Council of Science and Technology (1970-76), Chairman of the Nigerian Geotechnical Association (1970-76) and Vice-President for Africa, of International Society of Soil Mechanics and foundation engineering (ISSMFE) (1985-89).
