Engr. Dr. Folasodun Adebisi Shonubi was born in 7th March, 1935. He attended Government College, Ibadan from 1949 to 1954 and University College, Ibadan from 1954 to 1956 before proceeding to Queens College, Belfast where he obtained his B. Sc. and Ph. D. in Mechanical Engineering in 1964 respectively. Between 1959 and 1961, he obtained Masters in Production Engineering and DIC from Imperial College, London.
On his return to Nigeria in 1964, he joined the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Lagos and became Senior Lecturer and Acting Head of Department in 1968. While in the University, he had a UNESCO Fellowship which he spent with Messrs Carrier Corp. and Westinghouse both in the United States. He left the University in 1973 to become the Principal Partner of Mek-Ind Associates, a firm of professional engineers, where areas of expertise covered all areas of Mechanical Engineering Practice. From 1989 to date, he has been the Principal Partner of Shonubi Mek-Ind Associates.
Engr. Dr. Shonubi has served the profession and the country in many capacities. He was a member of the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE), a member of Council COREN, and a foundation member of the Association of Professional Engineers of Nigeria. He is a Fellow and past President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and a past President of the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria. He is a Foundation Fellow and member of Council of the Academy.
