Engr. Dr. Osborne Olumide Phillips was born in Lagos on July 28th, 1945 and he holds a B. Sc (Hons) degree in Mechanical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (1970) and a Masters Degree in Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering from Pennsylvania State University (1974). His PhD research earned him the distinction of a Dual Titled Doctorate Degree in Petroleum & Natural Gas Engineering as well as Operations Research, from Pennsylvania State University in May 1976.
On the academic front, he lectured at the University of Ibadan (1983-85) and has served as External Examiner to similar programmes in the country such as at the Department of Petroleum Engineering, University of Port Harcourt as well as at the University of Benin where he assisted in the establishment and development of their journal of engineering. On the professional front, Dr. Philips practiced mostly in the oil industry at Texaco Overseas (Nigeria) Petroleum Company Unlimited from where he retired as the Executive Vice Chairman in June 2001. He attained this enviable position in recognition of his display of unusual excellence in both professional development and visionary leadership over a thirty year period. In the process, he held several management positions such as Head, Assets Development and New Business, District Manager, Warri (1985-1987), Assistant Managing Director, Operations (1990-1993) etc.
Dr. Philips currently serves an the Board if several organizations in different sectors of the economy including Chairman, Unilag Consult, Chairman, Offshore Atlantic Petroleum Limited, Vice President, Lomic Inc. USA, Chairman, Board of Governors, Dowen College, Lagos to mention a few. He has been active in professional engineering practice in Nigeria and abroad and has published many scholarly and professional papers in the area of reservoir exploitation and management. He has been an active member of the Nigerian Society of Petroleum Engineers since 1973 and was National Chairman in 1981 and 1983. He is a Fellow of both the Nigeria Society of Engineers and the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers.
