Engr. (Chief) Ebenezer Babaranti Osoba was born on 20th November 1939 at Ile-Ife. After his primary and secondary education (1944-1958), at St. Saviour Primary and Ijebu- Ode Grammar Schools respectively, he followed up with his ‘’A’’ Levels (1960-62). at the Nigeria College of Arts, Science and Technology, Zaria.
He attended Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he graduated with a B. Sc. degree in Civil Engineering in June 1965. He also secured a post-graduate diploma in Hydraulic Engineering from Delft International Institution for Hydraulic & Environmental Engineering, Netherlands in 1968. He was accorded the privilege to attend the National Institute for Policy & Strategic Studies, Kuru, Jos in 1984, after which he was duly conferred with the prestigious membership of the National Institute (mni).
Engr. E.B. Osoba started his professional career with the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) as a pupil Engineer in 1965 and rose to become the head and Director of Engineering, a position he held until his voluntary retirement in January 1988. He thereafter joined a partly foreign-owned company, Netherlands Harbourworks Nigeria, NHW, where as Managing Director he successfully turned around the fortunes of the company within a period of five (5) years. He subsequently left NHW to establish his own company, Ebcon Engineering & Construction Company Ltd in 1993, which has steadily grown over the years to become a reputable Engineering Company, especially in port and harbour development, dredging & reclamation and coastal engineering.
Engr. E.B. Osoba retains membership of several reputable professional bodies including: Chartered Engineer of the Institute of Civil Engineers of Great Britain; Registered Engineer of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers; Past President of the Federation of Construction Industry (FOCI) (1991-96); Past President of COREN (2001-2003); Past Chairman of Central Dredging Association (CEDA) West African Group, Lagos.
To his credit are many publications in Engineering which have tremendously contributed to infrastructural development in the country. A devout and committed Christian, Engr. Osoba served as Past President of the Christian Companions of St. Peter’s Church (Faji) Lagos; Past President of Fountain of Hope Society, Cathedral Church of our Saviour Ijebu-Ode; Member of Ijebu-Ode Club; Past President, Ogudu GRA Residents’ Association (2006-2010).
Current National President of Ijebu-Ode Grammar School Old Boys Association (JOGSOBA). Based on his avowed industry, service to humanity and philanthropic activities, Engr. E.B. Osoba has been severally honoured, notable amongst which are: Otun Balogun of St. Luke Anglican Church, Ogbogbo, and Baba Ijo St. Luke’s Anglican Church, Ogbogbo, Ijebu.
He was also conferred with the chieftaincy title of Bobatunwase of Ijebu Mushin in May 1983; and was recently honoured among the Top 100 Nigeria’s Development Professionals in commemoration of Nigeria’s Centenary Celebration in 2014. Engr. Osoba is happily married and blessed with many children and grandchildren.
