Born on 1st July, 1947 in Benin, Edo State. Dr Gregory Omosigho Ero hold a bachelors degree of the University of Ibadan (UI) in physical Chemistry in 1968, a Master of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Imperial College, London in 1971 and DMS (Management Studies) Templeton College, University of Oxford 1982. He also holds certificates of Columbia University Graduate School of Business New York, 1979; College of Petroleum Studies Oxford in 1988 and Institute of Management Development, Lausanne, Switzerland in 1994.
On his return to Nigeria, Dr Ero worked with Federal Ministry of Petroleum Resources as the Head of Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), Warri from 1974 – 1977. Between 1977 and 1988, he was Branch Superintendent – NNPC, Warri; Head, NNPC Central Purchasing and Supply Department.
Head, Group Managing Director’s Office. He became General Manager, Oil and Gas Operation in 1988 . Dr Ero, served as General Manager, Commercial, Nigeria LNG; Human Resources Development – NNPC and Services, NAPIMS between 1989 – 1991. Between 1991 and 1996, he was the Managing Director National Engineering and Technical Company (NETCO), a subsidiary of NNPC. In 1996, he became the Group General Manager/Chief Executive Officer, National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS). In 1999 he was made the Managing Director, IDLS – Benin City (NNPC). He retired from NNPC in 2000 and has been the Chairman, Arkleen Oil and Gas Limited.
Dr Ero had made tremendous contributions to the development of the Engineering profession in Nigeria. These include: the execution in Nigeria of the Detailed Engineering of the Escravoc Gas Plant by NETCO between (1993 – 1995 and the export of Natural Gas Liquid (NLG) from Nigeria in the NNPC/Mobil Oso NGL Project.
Dr Ero was honoured with Awards for the outstanding contributions to the development of in-country technological capability by then US Secretary of State in 1995, distinguished presentation at an Oil Seminar in Spain 1978 and the Doctorate degree in Business Administration (Honoris Causa) of the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.
He is a COREN Registered Engineer, fellow, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, Institute of Director of Great Britain, Honorary fellow, the Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers.
