Born on 2nd November, 1933, graduated B. Sc. in Civil Engineering from the University of London in 1959 and obtained Master in Soil and Foundation Engineering and Public Health and Environmental Engineering from the Universities of Birmingham (1962) and Newcastle-Upon-Tyne (1971) respectively. He is a Fellow of both the Nigerian Society of Engineers and the British Institution of Civil Engineers.
While in U.K., Engr Akintunde worked with Sir Robert Mc Alpine and Sons Ltd., London, Sir Lendsay Parkinson Ltd., London. On returning to Nigeria, he worked with the defunct Western Nigeria Ministry of Works and Transport, Messrs L.A.O. Banjoko and Co. Ltd., before forming his own firm of Profen Consultants in 1976. Engr. Akintunde served on several boards including member, Board of Directors, Western State Housing Corporation; Director, Ondo Housing Corporation; Chairman, Ondo State Housing Corporation; Director, Nigerian Company Ltd., Director, Proda; and Chairman, National Construction Policy Council.
He is a past president of the Nigerian Society of Engineers and was a member of Council of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). For several years, he was a member of Council of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO) where he rose to the position of Vice-President between 1991 and 1996. Engr. Akintunde is a foundation Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering.
